9 Circles is based on the true story of a young soldier with mental issues who fought in Iraq, who allegedly committed horrific war crimes during his service. This play raises vitally important questions about war and culpability.
As the title implies, the solider goes through 9 Circles of hell, and my soundscape supported a heavy and ominous environment. I pulled music sources ranging from country guitar to an Arabic performance artist, as well as distorted droning tones that emanated below the audience seating from a subwoofer speaker placed below the risers. We recorded extensive audio from two actors to modify and distort dialogue that would layer under and in between live action dialogue on stage.
